In celebration of International Women’s Day, we wanted to spotlight one of our favorite female figures in the industry – Dana Cowin has been at the forefront of the food industry for longer than a decade. She was the Editor-In-Chief of Food & Wine Magazine for 21 years and is currently the Chief Creative Officer at Chefs Club International.
In addition to her listed accolades, she’s also the creative mind behind food radio show, Speaking Broadly. With over 45 episodes, the show focuses on powerful women in the food world and their diverse career paths and talents. It’s a different take on the food industry, which on the surface seems like a world of gluttony, tasting menus, and food trends on social media.
“People are focused on ingredients and where they come from, which in turn touches politics, environment, nutrition, policy, immigration. If you look closely at the food culture, you can see the most important issues of the day. It’s this aspect that inspires me the most. That you can vote for good three times a day when you’re eating,” Dana explains.
And we couldn’t have said it better ourselves. Speaking Broadly gives a unique and intimate perspective on topics like immigrants looking for jobs in the States, food safety and trends and their connection to nutrition, and the importance of education in the restaurant industry.
