In its earliest incarnation, the Grog was merely a mixture of hot rum and water with an occasional sprinkling of spices. It was invented by the 18th-century British admiral Edward Vernon, nicknamed Old Grog, who attempted to prevent scurvy by serving his men this unique concoction. The Grog has undergone many refinements over the years but today, it’s commonly enjoyed during the winter season. It’s got sweetness and spice and everything nice.
