On Monday, December 12th and Tuesday, December 13th, Yardbird hosted a two-night event to celebrate Okinawan food, drink, and culture. Inspired by the team’s trip to Okinawa, Chef Matt Abergel created a special menu featuring signature Okinawan ingredients, including Pig Face Fried Rice, Goya Bacon ‘N’ Eggs, Agu Pork Tsukune, and more. Our Beverage Director, Elliot Faber, curated a unique beverage list, including Awamori cocktails, highballs, and of course, Orion Beer.

In April 2016, some members of the Yardbird team took a trip to Okinawa to discover its sights, sounds, and most importantly, tastes. Okinawa is not only known for its tropical climate, it’s also famous for its food and beverage culture (which is significantly different from the rest of Japan’s). It’s the home of Agu Pork, Taco Rice, Purple Sweet Potato, Goya (bitter melon), Black Sugar, and much more.

Working with the Okinawa Government, Matt and Elliot sourced the best, seasonal ingredients that this prefecture has to offer in order share the true culture and spirit of Okinawa with the people of Hong Kong. Check out some photos from this unforgettably delicious event below:
